It is everyone’s right to strive to develop his skills and abilities, and seriously seek to develop himself. Similarly, it is also every company and every institution’s right to seek to upgrade its human resources, through the programs that enable them to fulfil that target. But for these programs to turn into an obsession pushing those who are behind such programs to imagine that they can make of themselves legendary models that are capable of making the impossible, is something that can never be accepted or taken for granted.
I think that this concept is deeply rooted in people’s mind due to the fact that the vast majority have adopted the Western concept of human development, which falselysuggests that they can, through it, improve their financial conditions.
As we have come to live in a society mainly dominated by material thought to the point that collecting money has become a preoccupation for all social groups, it is natural, then, for people to run after the Western model of human development, with all its pros and cons.
Obviously, the core problem of the Arab mentality lies in how to deal with incoming ideas without scrutiny, as it quickly takes the model presented to it as it is, trying to mold itself into it, disregarding whether these molds are loose or tight.
That does not matter for the Arab mentality just because it is simply passionate about what is presented, deeming it a solution to many problems it faces.
What remains strange is that this way of dealing with human development takes place when all those who are passionate about the Western model of human development underestimates the fact that our Islamic human culture has a more effective and more consistent model for our human nature and our committed mentality.
Islamic human cultureis also a model for actual human development, through which all human aspects can be developed, unlike the Western model which is solely limited to the materialistic aspects of things.
The bottom line is to know that human development in Islam is not just a desire by some to develop themselves, but rather a religious duty necessitated by the nature of Islam calling for work and sincerity. Human development, in addition to caring about skillful aspects, did not overlook the ethical aspects, as it derives its approach from the general curriculum of Islamic civilization, which in turn did not overlook the ethical dimension in all its orientations.
Therefore, Islamic world scholars are required to extract human development foundations from heritage books and reuse them in the same way that their antecedents used them, so that the same positive result they once obtained, can accrue again.
The Islamic heritage is full of many models that have benefited from the thought of human development in Islam, so those models were able to learn many languages and become familiar with many cultures, as well as acquire new skills that enabled them to contribute to building a successful bright civilization that has remained a pride for the following generations.
if we assumingly want to build a new civilization, we have to start from the same point our antecedents had taken off, namely the self-development through the data of Islamic thought that isbalanced and free of any foreignodd conceptsimpurities.
